ThyssenKrupp Elevator for Italy’s tallest

32 systems from ThyssenKrupp Elevator for Italy’s tallest office building

New Lombardy regional government headquarters in Milan to get Italy’s fastest elevators.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has won a contract to supply exclusively 27 passenger elevators and five platform lifts for the new Lombardy regional government headquarters in Milan. Consisting of five sections, the complex will include a 161 meter tall main tower which will be Italy’s tallest office building. To transport the headquarters’ roughly 3,000 employees, plus visitors, quickly and safely, ThyssenKrupp Elevator is installing six  conventional elevators as well as two high-speed systems. These will travel at speeds of up to eight meters a second, making them the fastest elevators in Italy. The journey from the ground floor to the 39th floor of the main tower will take less than 30 seconds. The elevators will be among the fastest in Europe.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s intelligent destination selection control system will also make

its Italian debut in this building. Passengers select their destination on a touchscreen

operating panel outside the cab, and within seconds a computer works out the fastest

elevator and displays the information on the screen. Waiting times outside the cab are

reduced and passengers get to their destination faster, even during rush hours.

In the other four sections of the complex, whose architecture recalls the hills, valleys and rivers of the north Italian region, a total of 19 elevators will be installed, each with eleven stops. To ensure all parts of the building are barrier-free for wheelchair users and people with walking disabilities, ThyssenKrupp Elevator will install an additional five platform lifts in the new government headquarters, scheduled for completion at the end of 2009. These will feature easy-reach operating panels and simple, low-effort destination selection.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator is one of the leading elevator companies in the world and represented at over 800 locations in more than 60 countries. With 43,000 employees, the company generated sales of over 4.9 billion euros in the fiscal year to September 30, 2008. Its capabilities include passenger and freight elevators, escalators and moving walks, stair and platform lifts, passenger boarding bridges as well as quality service for all products. ThyssenKrupp Elevator Italia is a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG with 300 employees and 15 branches and sales offices nationwide.
